Caring that extends a lifetime
The Schoellkopf Health Center, located adjacent to Memorial Medical Center, is a 120-bed skilled nursing facility that offers short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing and rehabilitation services.
All rooms are single occupancy, ensuring residents optimum privacy and comfort. The three-story facility is well appointed to create a homelike atmosphere. Heating and air conditioning levels are individually controlled in each room to suit personal preference. Residents are encouraged to bring their personal belongings and furnishings.
On-site services are customized to meet the individual needs of residents and persons requiring intensive short-term rehabilitation after suffering a stroke or undergoing procedures such as hip or knee surgery. Such services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, audiology and dental care.
Registered nurses are on duty 24 hours a day. Intergenerational activities take place weekly with children from Memorial Medical Center's Child Care Center.
The center recently announced a new partnership with Niagara Hospice that will lead to the opening of a dedicated hospice unit on the center's second floor. The hospice unit will be called David's Path in honor of David Winker, a beloved Memorial Medical Center employee who spent his final days surrounded by family members while being cared for at Niagara Hospice House.
The Schoellkopf Health Center has received numerous state and national awards for its high quality care and innovative programming. Schoellkopf's limited employee turnover – it's about half the national average for similar facilities – means residents benefit from the staff's dependability and experience.
John R. Durno is the nursing home administrator.
