Memorial to Host Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project, an international initiative featuring a visual display of colorful T-shirts created to bear witness to violence against women, will be on display in the main lobby at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center from April 11 to 18.

Created for Sexual Assault Awareness Month by local survivors, the project is being coordinated by Niagara County Rape Crisis Services, a division of the Niagara County Department of Mental Health.

Each shirt on display will be decorated to represent a particular woman’s experience and created by the survivor herself or someone who cares about her.  In addition, the Department of Mental Health has developed a unique addition to this year's Project -- gym shorts to represent male survivors of sexual assault.

The Clothesline Project will also be on display:
• April 7 though 11 at Niagara County Community College (room G-201) with an opening ceremony on April 7 at noon
• April 21 through 30 outside the library media center at Niagara Falls High School,
• April 21 through 25 at Planned Parenthood offices in Niagara Falls and Lockport
