Delivery delay forces postponement of flu shot clinic

A manufacturer's delay in delivering an expected shipment of influenza vaccine has forced Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to postpone the third of its three flu shot clinics for this week.

Today's clinic was held as scheduled but was forced to close early after nurses administered the final 200 doses of influenza vaccine the hospital had on hand. A clinic previously scheduled for Thursday (Oct. 27) will not be held.

"A combination of overwhelming demand coupled with a manufacturer's delay in delivering a shipment of vaccine we were counting on having has forced us to postpone Thursday's clinic," said Jeanne Rodgers, R.N., Memorial's infection control coordinator. "We will reschedule as soon as we receive that vaccine."

Rodgers said there is no reported shortage of influenza vaccine, as there was last year, and emphasized that people who didn't get a flu shot Wednesday shouldn't become alarmed.

"We expect to receive more vaccine and we will announce additional clinic dates as soon as we have it," she said.
