Fellowship in the association recognizes the demonstration of high standards of professional development and a commitment to the goals and long-range activities of the association. To be considered for fellowship status, an applicant must submit evidence of outstanding performance in cardiovascular or pulmonary rehabilitation over a period of at least five years relative to clinical practice, research or professional education; receive written recommendations from two current association fellows; and be granted approval by the association’s Credentials Committee. Fitzgerald, who joined the Memorial staff in 2004, is a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness who is also a nationally certified Asthma Educator. She is the president-elect of the New York State Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, chairs the New York state Program Certification Committee, and has a seat on the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Re-certification Committee. Founded in 1985, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) is dedicated to the professional development of its members through information, networking, and educational opportunities. Central to its mission is the reduction of death and disability from cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases through education, prevention, rehabilitation, research, and aggressive disease management to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. |
