The Heart Center of Niagara, Medtronic to kick off Heart Success Week at the Summit

The Heart Center of Niagara, the Summit mall and Medtronic, USA, Inc. will celebrate American Heart Month with a signature event to promote the prevention, early diagnosis and reversal of cardiac disease and increase awareness of the risks associated with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

The Heart Center of Niagara’s Heart Fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Summit, formerly the Summit Park Mall, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature a comprehensive array of free services, presentations and displays along with prizes, refreshments and entertainment for the kids.

Highlighting the event will be a program by Heart Center of Niagara cardiologist and heart rhythm specialist Dr. Donald F. Switzer. Switzer’s presentation, “Know Your Ejection Fraction,” will focus on the importance of “EF” - your heart's ability to pump blood. The ejection fraction, or “EF”, can be determined non-invasively by means of an echocardiogram and is a key indicator of heart health. It is frequently used by physicians to determine how well your heart is functioning and to guide appropriate cardiac care.

Free EF screenings will be performed by partial echocardiogram at the Heart Center of Niagara’s Heart Fair, which also will feature:

• Opportunities to meet cardiologists from The Heart Center of Niagara
• Free risk screening for SCA
• Free blood pressure screening
• Free body fat analysis
• Smoking cessation information
• Heart Healthy cooking display staffed by a registered dietitian
• The latest information about non-invasive cardiac testing, including PET scanning and CT angiography
• Information about heart disease, prevention, diagnosis and reversal
