Memorial looks forward to discussions with Mount St. Mary's Hospital & Health Center

The Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century, also known as the Berger Commission, today released its recommendations for hospital and nursing home restructuring and closures. If the recommendations are approved by the Governor and the Legislature, they become law and must be implemented by the Commissioner of Health.

The report calls for Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to enter into discussions with Mount St. Mary's Hospital & Health Center in Lewiston to explore the creation of a single unified governing structure in order to streamline and more effectively control the cost of health care in the Greater Niagara region.

We support the Berger Commission's objective to best configure the regional and local supply of hospital and nursing home facilities to appropriately respond to community needs for high-quality, affordable and accessible care and we look forward to these discussions.

We believe it is in the Greater Niagara region's best interests to have a health care delivery system that is locally owned and controlled by the community it serves. We are hopeful the upcoming discussions will lead to the development of such a system.
