NACC, Memorial host Arts in the Park

The historic Schoellkopf Park on Pine Avenue at Portage Road in downtown Niagara Falls was transformed into a vibrant showcase of the visual and performing arts July 19 when the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical hosted the first Arts in the Park celebration.

The outdoor event featured a stunning variety of demonstrations, performances and interactive exhibits including a special appearance and book signing by gardening expert, consultant and columnist Sally Cunningham.

Also on the program for Arts in the Park:

• Performances by the Greater Niagara Ballet Company, Time to Dance studio – including a special appearance by the Graceful & Gifted dance ensemble – and classical guitarist Andrew Bienick.

• Storyteller and musician Lorna MacDonald Czarnota.

• A Native American experiential art exhibit.

• Yoga and Tai Chi demonstrations, caricature sketches, a chalk walk, children’s face painting, and live open air painting by landscape artists Karl Heerdt, Ruth Thomas and Carol Matthews.

• A multi-arts/multi-media lineup of exhibiting artists.

“Arts in the Park was the first of many events that will be offered to the public in what we believe is now the most beautiful park in the city,” said Patricia E. Berggren, Memorial’s corporate adviser for foundation and community relations.
