Stroke Center Facts

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is a New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) designated Stroke Center – the only such stroke center in Niagara County.

We provide
• Quality care by a team of stroke care professionals including emergency medicine physicians and a neurologist.
• Neuroimaging available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
• State of the art imaging services including a 64-slice CT scanner.
• A step-down unit, a dedicated stroke unit and rehabilitation services to meet the needs of all patients.
• An active affiliation and partnership with The Stroke Care Center at Millard Fillmore Hospital Stroke Center.

Clinical expertise

Our stroke care team is led by Nyathappa Gundappa Anand, M.D., a board certified neurologist with specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke. Dr. Anand, whose office is in the Medical Center, is a graduate of Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary City, Karnataka, India, and completed his qualifications at the Royal College of Physicians, London, United Kingdom. He served his residency in neurology and served as chief resident at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Dr. Anand completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy at the University of Florida, Gainesville. His previous experience includes appointments at Myrtle Rigby Health Center, Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies; Ministry of Health, Glendon Hospital, Island of Montserrat, British West Indies; and Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, India.

Assisting Dr. Anand is Stroke Clinical Coordinator Claudia Moulden, R.N., a registered professional nurse with specialized training in the care of stroke patients. Prior to joining our staff, Claudia was a member of the Stroke Care Team at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital.
