Picnic to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week

One of the most important decisions a new mother makes is how to feed her baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics says breastfeeding can give a baby the best possible start in life.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and its Healthy Moms-Healthy Babies Coalition will celebrate the benefits of breastfeeding Tuesday, July 26 with a community picnic and baby shower at Hyde Park. The event will promote breastfeeding awareness, child safety, prenatal and maternal health and good old-fashioned summer fun.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Hyde Park wading pool.  A one-mile Breastfeeding Walk sponsored by the Niagara County Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program will begin at 10 a.m., with a picnic and baby shower sponsored by the March of Dimes to follow at 11 a.m.

The Niagara Falls Police Department will be on hand to provide child safety seat checks. Attendees will be eligible for prize drawings and first 100 to register will receive giveaways from participating community agencies.

This free event is open to all expecting moms, mothers and babies, and their families.  In case of rain, the event will be held in the Oasis Shelter at Hyde Park.
