State selects Schoellkopf staff to conduct Gold Stamp training

Representatives of the Schoellkopf Health Center and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center delivered a best practices training presentation at the Buffalo Regional Conference of the New York Gold Stamp Program to Reduce Pressure Ulcers.

The conference was held Jan. 21 at The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Cheektowaga and was attended by healthcare professionals from across Western New York. 

The invitation to conduct the training was extended by the New York State Department of Health’s Nursing Home Surveillance Program as a result of Schoellkopf Health Center being given the 2010 Quality Award by IPRO, an independent organization dedicated to optimizing the quality of health care and the value of dollars spent on health care. The IPRO award recognizes Schoellkopf’s outstanding results in reducing the incidence pressure sores.

The training was presented by Schoellkopf Administrator Thomas LoStracco, Nursing Director Joyce Sander, RN, and Jean Monnen, RN, BSN, CWOCN, inservice instructor at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

The Gold Stamp (Success Through Assessment, Management and Prevention) Program to Reduce Pressure Ulcers in New York State is a coordinated, evidence-based initiative of the New York State Department of Health and other professional and provider organizations that seeks to reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers by providing resources, tools, and education to all care settings about this statewide patient safety issue.

Schoellkopf Health Center is a 120-bed nursing care and rehabilitation facility located on the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center campus.
