Regular Stress Test

Many diagnostic exams require specific patient preparation prior to the exam in order to insure that the study is performed in the safest and most accurate manner possible. If you are scheduled for one of the following studies, follow the instructions exactly as written. If you have any questions or feel that you cannot comply with the instructions, be sure to call the Department of Department of Cardiology at (716) 278-4404.

Before the Test:
Check with your physician regarding any medications that should be stopped due to some medications affecting the outcome of the test.
Nothing to eat or drink except water 2 hours before the test.
NO coffee or tea day of test.
NO alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to the test.
Please notify physician if you are incapable of using a treadmill and/or bicycle.
Bring a list of your medications to the test and a prescription form from you doctor.

During the Test:
The test will be completed in less that 1 hour in 1 day.
Socks and tie shoes must be worn during the test.
Comfortable clothes to work out in must be worn.
NO loafers, slip-ons or heels.
NO nylons (females)
Exercise instructions will be given by the physician at time of test.
The technician will place electrode patches on the chest. These electrodes are connected by wires to an electrograph machine which records heartbeats.
Blood pressure and pulse and will be monitored before, during and following the test.
An Electrocardiogram (EKG) will be taken while at rest, during the test and following the test.
