David's Path is a unique collaboration between Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's Schoellkopf Health Center and Niagara Hospice. Together, we provide specialized hospice services designed to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals requiring 24-hour skilled nursing care.
For patients who can no longer remain at home, David's Path offers compassionate end-of-life care in a comfortable, supportive environment while providing guidance and peace of mind for families and loved ones.
What Is Hospice Care?
Hospice is specialized care for individuals facing a terminal illness when the expected prognosis is approximately six months or less if the disease follows its normal course. Many individuals who live beyond six months may continue receiving hospice services based on their needs.
Hospice focuses on comfort, dignity, symptom management, and quality of life while supporting both patients and their families throughout the journey.
In most cases, hospice services are covered by Medicare.

The Story Behind David's Path
David's Path is named in honor of David Winker, a dedicated Memorial employee who worked in the Medical Center's dietary department for nearly 47 years before being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Known for his commitment and reliability, David rode his bicycle to and from work every day, often arriving before his shift began regardless of the weather. Following his passing while under the care of Niagara Hospice, the hospice unit at Schoellkopf Health Center was dedicated in his memory as a tribute to his remarkable life and service.
