Training the Next Generation of Family Physicians
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program dedicated to developing skilled, compassionate physicians prepared to serve patients and communities across all stages of life. Since the mid-1970s, the program has provided high-quality postgraduate medical education with a focus on clinical excellence, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
As an unopposed residency program, residents benefit from individualized instruction, direct faculty mentorship, and extensive hands-on clinical experience without competing for procedural opportunities or teaching time. Our supportive, family-oriented environment allows residents to grow both professionally and personally while building the skills needed for a successful career in family medicine.
The program maintains an academic affiliation with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) and serves as a clinical training site for medical students completing clinical rotations. Residents learn alongside dedicated faculty members who are passionate about teaching and committed to helping each resident reach their full potential.

Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive training across the full spectrum of family medicine while preparing residents to practice evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Clinical Training
Residents receive extensive inpatient and outpatient experience while caring for a diverse patient population. The program's location within the Buffalo-Niagara medical corridor provides access to specialty learning opportunities in areas including transplant medicine, trauma care, cardiac surgery, vascular medicine, oncology, pediatrics, and other advanced specialties.
Didactic Education
Residents participate in regular conferences, seminars, lectures, and case-based learning sessions covering the full range of family medicine topics. Educational activities are designed to keep residents current on evolving clinical guidelines, emerging treatments, and best practices in patient care.
Teaching Opportunities
Education is an important part of the residency experience. Residents work closely with medical students throughout their training and gain valuable teaching experience by supervising clinical activities, discussing patient cases, and helping mentor future physicians.
Research & Quality Improvement
Residents are encouraged to participate in scholarly activities, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient care and contribute to the advancement of family medicine. These experiences help residents develop critical thinking skills, evaluate clinical outcomes, and apply evidence-based practices in real-world healthcare settings.
Through research and quality improvement projects, residents learn how to identify opportunities for improvement, measure outcomes, and implement meaningful changes that positively impact patient care and community health.
Community Outreach
Serving the community is a core component of the Family Medicine Residency Program. Residents regularly participate in outreach activities that address the healthcare needs of underserved populations throughout Niagara County.
Through educational programs, preventive health initiatives, community presentations, and outreach clinics, residents gain valuable experience caring for diverse populations while helping improve access to healthcare resources. These experiences reinforce the program's commitment to service, health equity, and community-centered care.
